Our Story

The Dark Horse Lounge (formerly the Whiskey River Saloon), a bright, friendly neighborhood bar in Hayward, California, opened its doors in 2011 and has been serving customers drinks, snacks, and smiles for over 10 years. The owner, Jennifer Sommer, is a Hayward native and granddaughter of Ralph Sommer, who owned and operated Holiday Bowl, a landmark Hayward facility with 40 bowling lanes, restaurant, bar, and banquet facilities that was open from 1958 to 2005.

The Dark Horse Lounge is equipped with a Touchtunes jukebox, six TVs, two dart boards, a pool table, and a variety of events throughout the year for various holidays, celebrations, and music nights. Covered outdoor seating is available to enjoy a sunny afternoon, and heat lamps are provided for cooler evenings.
